Original model of metabolic syndrome

The PEC2 experimental laboratory has developed an original and relevant model of metabolic syndrome in mice, induced by the “programming” effect of postnatal overfeeding (PNOF). This model radically differs from classical models of diabetic/obese mice induced by genetic mutations or high-fat and/or high-carbohydrate diets, which are far from the multidimensional aspects of human metabolic syndrome. From weaning to an advanced age of 12-18 months, PNOF mice exhibit weight gain associated with increased adiposity, glucose intolerance/insulin resistance, reduced left ventricular contractility, and increased infarct size after in vivo ischemia-reperfusion.
